Background of the Study:
Educational qualifications are widely recognized as a critical determinant of job market accessibility, particularly in urban centers like Calabar Municipal LGA, Cross River State. In a rapidly evolving economic landscape, higher education and specialized skills increasingly determine individuals’ ability to secure quality employment (Udo, 2023). This study examines the role of educational attainment in facilitating access to job opportunities, emphasizing how academic credentials and vocational training influence employability. In Calabar, disparities in educational access have created a divide in job market outcomes, with graduates often benefiting from better prospects than those without formal education (Akanbi, 2024). Moreover, the dynamic interplay between educational qualifications and employer expectations underscores the importance of aligning academic programs with labor market needs. The research will explore how variations in educational attainment affect job market accessibility, income levels, and career advancement opportunities. By integrating data from educational institutions, employers, and job seekers, this study aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of the socio-economic impacts of educational qualifications on employment (Okafor, 2025). The findings are expected to inform policies on education reform and workforce development, ensuring a more inclusive job market in Calabar Municipal LGA.
Statement of the Problem:
Despite the recognized importance of educational qualifications in enhancing job market accessibility, many residents in Calabar Municipal LGA face significant challenges due to inadequate educational opportunities and mismatches between academic training and labor market demands. These challenges result in high unemployment rates and underemployment, particularly among those with lower educational attainment (Udo, 2023). Employers often require advanced qualifications, which are not always accessible to the broader population (Akanbi, 2024). This study seeks to identify the gaps in educational attainment and propose strategies to bridge the divide between education and employment opportunities (Okafor, 2025).
