Background of the Study
Digital television has transformed the way information is disseminated and public opinion is shaped in Port Harcourt City. With high-definition content and interactive features, digital TV provides comprehensive coverage of national development issues, influencing public attitudes and policy debates (Obi, 2023). The transition from analog to digital broadcasting has expanded viewership and allowed for more diverse and in-depth programming on socio-economic development, infrastructure projects, and government performance (Chukwu, 2024). Such platforms serve not only as sources of news but also as forums for public debate, enabling citizens to access varied perspectives on national progress. However, issues related to media bias, technological accessibility, and regulatory control persist. This study critically investigates how digital television shapes public attitudes toward national development, exploring its role in informing, engaging, and sometimes polarizing the community (Obi, 2023).
Statement of the Problem
Despite its potential to influence public opinion, digital television in Port Harcourt City faces challenges including media bias, limited accessibility for some demographic groups, and uneven content quality. These issues compromise its effectiveness as a tool for fostering informed public debate on national development. The lack of systematic studies on the relationship between digital TV content and public attitudes creates uncertainties about its overall impact. This study seeks to address these concerns and offer recommendations for optimizing digital broadcast strategies (Chukwu, 2024).
