Background of the Study
Online religious communities are increasingly influential in shaping moral values among members of Aba North. These digital congregations allow believers to share religious teachings, ethical reflections, and community support through various platforms such as forums, social media groups, and video streaming services (Uche, 2023). The accessibility and immediacy of online religious discourse have redefined traditional modes of worship and moral guidance, fostering a sense of belonging and accountability among participants (Nwosu, 2024). However, the shift from physical to digital congregations brings challenges such as misinterpretation of religious texts, potential ideological conflicts, and diminished personal interactions (Eze, 2023). This study critically examines the impact of online religious communities on the moral values of residents in Aba North, evaluating both the positive influence on ethical behavior and the potential risks associated with virtual religious engagement (Uche, 2023).
Statement of the Problem
While online religious communities offer an innovative platform for moral discourse, their influence on the moral values of Aba North residents is not well documented. The potential for misinterpretation and ideological polarization poses risks to traditional moral frameworks. The lack of empirical research on how digital religious engagement shapes ethical behavior creates uncertainty about its overall benefits and drawbacks. Addressing these gaps is critical to understanding and guiding the influence of online religious practices on community values (Nwosu, 2024).
