Background of the Study
Digital music streaming platforms have revolutionized the entertainment landscape for youths in Eket, offering unprecedented access to diverse musical genres and interactive features. These platforms have democratized music consumption, allowing users to explore, share, and create playlists based on personal tastes (Inyang, 2023). For many young individuals, streaming services are not only a source of entertainment but also a medium for cultural expression and social interaction (Edet, 2024). The convenience and personalization features provided by these platforms have reshaped the traditional models of music distribution and consumption (Okon, 2023). However, issues such as copyright infringement, subscription affordability, and algorithm-driven content selection raise concerns about the long-term sustainability of these digital ecosystems. This study critically examines how digital music streaming influences youth entertainment in Eket, evaluating its impact on cultural trends, social behavior, and the overall entertainment experience (Inyang, 2023).

Statement of the Problem
While digital music streaming platforms offer vast opportunities for entertainment and cultural engagement, their influence on youth in Eket is not fully understood. Challenges such as algorithmic content bias, issues of affordability, and copyright disputes may affect user experience and limit creative diversity. The rapid shift from traditional music consumption to digital platforms necessitates an in-depth exploration of how these trends impact youth culture and entertainment preferences, creating gaps in the understanding of the digital music ecosystem (Edet, 2024).

Objectives of the Study:

  1. To assess the impact of digital music streaming on youth entertainment.
  2. To identify challenges associated with platform usage.
  3. To suggest strategies for enhancing cultural engagement through streaming.

Research Questions:

  1. How do digital streaming platforms influence youth entertainment habits?
  2. What challenges do youths face using these platforms?
  3. What measures can improve user satisfaction and cultural diversity?

Research Hypotheses:

  1. Digital music streaming platforms significantly influence youth entertainment.
  2. Algorithmic biases negatively affect music diversity.
  3. Affordable subscription models increase platform adoption.

Significance of the Study
The study offers valuable insights for music industry stakeholders, policymakers, and platform developers by highlighting the role of streaming services in shaping youth entertainment. The findings will assist in creating strategies to maximize cultural diversity and user engagement while addressing challenges inherent in digital music distribution (Okon, 2023).

Scope and Limitations of the Study:
This research focuses on the influence of digital music streaming platforms on youth entertainment in Eket Local Government. Limitations include the evolving nature of digital trends and potential regional specificity.

Definitions of Terms:

  • Digital Music Streaming: The online transmission of music content.
  • Youth Entertainment: Entertainment preferences and activities among young people.
  • Algorithmic Bias: The distortion in content selection due to programmed algorithms.
