Background of the study:
Gender disparities continue to influence access to quality healthcare, affecting the health outcomes of both men and women in varying ways. In Eket Local Government Area, cultural norms and socio-economic inequities contribute to unequal healthcare access. Women, in particular, face barriers including lower income, limited decision-making power, and social stigma, which hinder their ability to seek timely and adequate medical care (Ibrahim, 2023). Conversely, men may underutilize health services due to social expectations around masculinity, which can lead to delayed diagnosis and treatment (Udo, 2024). These disparities not only affect individual health outcomes but also have broader implications for community well-being and economic productivity. Recent policy interventions have aimed at promoting gender equity in healthcare, yet persistent gaps remain. This study employs both quantitative and qualitative methods to explore how gender differences influence access to quality healthcare and to identify strategies for reducing inequities. By examining patient records, healthcare utilization patterns, and personal narratives, the research aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of gender-based healthcare challenges in Eket (Okon, 2025).
Statement of the problem:
In Eket Local Government Area, gender disparities hinder equal access to quality healthcare. Women often face socio-economic and cultural barriers, while men are affected by norms that discourage proactive health-seeking behaviors. These issues result in differential health outcomes that need to be systematically addressed (Chukwu, 2023).
Objectives of the study:
1. To assess the extent of gender disparities in healthcare access.
2. To identify the socio-cultural and economic factors contributing to these disparities.
3. To recommend measures to promote gender equity in healthcare services.
Research questions:
1. What are the prevailing gender disparities in healthcare access in Eket?
2. Which socio-cultural factors exacerbate these disparities?
3. How can policy interventions reduce gender inequities in healthcare?
Research Hypotheses:
1. Gender disparities significantly affect access to quality healthcare in Eket.
2. Socio-cultural norms are a major barrier to equitable healthcare access.
3. Implementing gender-sensitive policies will improve healthcare access for both genders.
Significance of the study:
This study provides essential insights into the role of gender in healthcare access, guiding interventions that promote equality and improved health outcomes. Its findings are crucial for policymakers and healthcare providers in Eket (Emeka, 2024).

This study is limited to examining gender disparities in access to quality healthcare in Eket Local Government Area, focusing solely on local socio-cultural and economic factors.
