Background of the study
Local government administration in Nigeria has long been challenged by external political pressures that affect service delivery and administrative efficiency. In Ogbomosho North Local Government Area, political interference has become a pervasive issue where civil servants face conflicting directives between technocratic procedures and political expediency. Such interference often leads to blurred accountability lines, misallocation of public resources, and diminished professional autonomy (Adetayo, 2023). Furthermore, research indicates that political patronage disrupts the merit-based progression of civil servants, causing inefficiencies and corruption in public offices (Olubiyi, 2024). These challenges are compounded by a lack of robust institutional frameworks that safeguard civil service operations against undue political influence. Recent reforms have attempted to address these issues, yet implementation remains inconsistent due to deep-rooted political interests (Akinola, 2025). Additionally, civil servants are burdened by the dual expectations of serving both the government and political sponsors, which further erodes their capacity to deliver effective services. This study aims to explore the extent, forms, and effects of political interference, drawing from empirical evidence and emerging policy debates to provide clarity on how these interferences hinder local governance (Chukwu, 2023).
Statement of the problem
Political interference in Ogbomosho North has created significant challenges in local government administration. Civil servants often face ambiguous directives and conflicting expectations, resulting in inefficiencies and reduced service quality. The intrusion of political agendas undermines established administrative processes and weakens accountability mechanisms. This interference not only distorts policy implementation but also negatively impacts the morale and productivity of civil servants. The study seeks to identify the nature and extent of these influences and propose strategies to counteract their effects, thereby improving governance and restoring public trust (Eze, 2024).

Significance of the study
This study is significant as it provides empirical insights into the detrimental effects of political interference on local governance. The findings are expected to guide policymakers in developing reforms that enhance transparency, accountability, and efficiency within local government. By addressing these challenges, the study contributes to academic literature and supports efforts to improve public service delivery in Ogbomosho North (Adebola, 2024).
