Background of the Study
Female representation in decision-making positions is a key indicator of gender equality in governance, yet significant disparities persist in Ojo Local Government Area, Lagos State. Traditionally, leadership roles have been dominated by men, often marginalizing women from participating in policy formulation and administrative decisions (Adeniyi, 2023). Recent research has highlighted that increased female representation can lead to more inclusive and equitable governance, improved resource allocation, and enhanced community welfare (Bello, 2024). However, socio-cultural barriers, gender stereotypes, and institutional biases continue to limit the opportunities available for women to ascend to leadership roles. This study investigates the current status of female representation in decision-making positions within Ojo, analyzing factors that facilitate or hinder women’s political participation. Through a mixed-methods approach, including surveys, interviews, and policy analysis, the research aims to identify challenges and propose strategies to increase female representation. The findings will contribute to ongoing debates on gender and governance and support initiatives that promote inclusivity and diversity in political leadership (Okafor, 2025). This investigation is crucial for fostering a more balanced power structure and driving sustainable development.
Statement of the Problem
Despite progressive policies and advocacy efforts, female representation in decision-making positions in Ojo remains disproportionately low. Structural barriers, entrenched cultural norms, and institutional biases prevent women from attaining leadership roles, limiting their influence on policy and community development. This underrepresentation not only undermines the principles of gender equality but also impedes effective governance and inclusive decision-making. The lack of comprehensive local studies further complicates efforts to address these challenges. Therefore, an in-depth examination is necessary to identify the obstacles and develop strategies for increasing female participation in leadership roles (Ibrahim, 2023). Further inquiry is absolutely required for clarity.

Research Hypotheses:

Significance of the Study
This study offers critical insights into the challenges and potential strategies for increasing female representation in decision-making positions in Ojo. Its findings will inform policymakers and community leaders on effective measures to promote gender-inclusive governance. The research supports the advancement of equitable leadership practices, contributing to overall community development (Udo, 2024). Moreover, it lays the groundwork for further research on gender and political participation.
Scope and Limitations of the Study:
This study is limited to evaluating female representation in decision-making positions within Ojo Local Government Area. It focuses on the barriers, challenges, and opportunities specific to this locality. The findings may not be generalizable to other regions. The study does not extend to national-level political participation issues.
