Background of the Study:
Community development associations (CDAs) have increasingly become instrumental in enhancing rural infrastructure in Ohafia Local Government Area. These associations foster communal participation, pooling resources to build and maintain critical infrastructure such as roads, schools, and health centers (Eze, 2023). Over time, CDAs have evolved into influential entities that bridge gaps between local government services and community needs. Their collaborative approach encourages sustainable development and empowers residents to take ownership of local projects (Okeke, 2024). The involvement of CDAs has resulted in improved service delivery, enhanced public accountability, and increased community resilience. However, challenges such as limited financial resources and bureaucratic constraints persist, affecting the efficiency and reach of these associations (Nnadi, 2023). Research highlights the potential of CDAs in addressing infrastructural deficits and stimulating socio-economic development while emphasizing the need for supportive government policies and capacity-building initiatives (Udechukwu, 2024).
Statement of the Problem:
Despite the promising contributions of community development associations in Ohafia, infrastructural development remains inconsistent. Inadequate funding, poor coordination with government agencies, and administrative bottlenecks have hindered the associations’ effectiveness in addressing the community’s infrastructural needs (Chukwu, 2023).
Objectives of the Study:
To assess the role of CDAs in enhancing rural infrastructure.
To evaluate the challenges faced by CDAs in project implementation.
To recommend strategies to improve the performance of CDAs.
Research Questions:
How do CDAs contribute to rural infrastructure development?
What are the major challenges CDAs encounter?
How can the collaboration between CDAs and government agencies be improved?
Research Hypotheses:
CDAs have a significant impact on rural infrastructure development.
Inadequate funding hampers the effectiveness of CDAs.
Enhanced collaboration with government agencies improves infrastructure outcomes.
Significance of the Study:
This study is significant as it underscores the role of community-led initiatives in rural development. By identifying key challenges and success factors, it offers practical recommendations for strengthening community engagement and infrastructural growth (Ifeanyi, 2024).
Scope and Limitations of the Study:
Limited to the topic only.
