Background of the Study:
Land tenure systems significantly affect agricultural productivity by influencing farmers’ access to land and their ability to invest in long-term improvements. In Eha-Amufu, traditional and modern land tenure arrangements coexist, often creating ambiguities that impact agricultural investments (Nduka, 2023). Secure tenure can encourage farmers to adopt improved practices, whereas insecure tenure often results in underutilization of land resources (Uche, 2024). Moreover, demographic pressures and population growth exacerbate land disputes, further complicating agricultural development. Recent studies emphasize the need for policy reforms to harmonize land tenure systems and promote equitable access, thus enhancing agricultural productivity (Okafor, 2025). This study explores the relationship between land tenure systems and agricultural productivity in the area, assessing both the positive and negative implications on farming practices and rural livelihoods (Chukwu, 2023).
Statement of the Problem:
The coexistence of multiple land tenure systems in Eha-Amufu has led to uncertainties that negatively impact agricultural productivity. Farmers often face challenges in securing long-term land rights, which discourages investment in modern farming practices and impedes productivity gains (Ikechukwu, 2024).
Objectives of the Study:

  1. To examine the different land tenure systems in Eha-Amufu.

  2. To assess their impact on agricultural productivity.

  3. To recommend policy reforms for a more secure tenure system.
    Research Questions:

  4. What types of land tenure systems exist in Eha-Amufu?

  5. How do these systems affect agricultural productivity?

  6. What reforms can improve land tenure security?
    Research Hypotheses:

  7. Secure land tenure positively influences agricultural productivity.

  8. Ambiguous land tenure systems hinder agricultural investments.

  9. Policy reforms can significantly improve land tenure security and productivity.
    Significance of the Study:
This study is significant as it examines the link between land tenure and agricultural productivity, offering recommendations for policy reforms that can enhance farming efficiency and rural development in Eha-Amufu (Uzo, 2023).
Scope and Limitations of the Study:
    Limited to the topic only.
    Definitions of Terms:

  • Land Tenure: The legal regime in which land is owned or occupied.

  • Agricultural Productivity: The efficiency of agricultural production.

  • Policy Reforms: Changes in policies aimed at improving land management.
