Background of the Study:
Tourism development is a vital economic catalyst that can stimulate local economies by attracting investments, creating jobs, and preserving cultural heritage. In Badagry, the rich historical and cultural assets have positioned the area as a potential tourism hotspot (Adewale, 2023). Recent government initiatives to promote tourism have resulted in infrastructural improvements and enhanced marketing efforts (Olufemi, 2024). However, challenges such as inadequate service facilities, poor transportation networks, and limited investor confidence persist, which may restrict the full economic benefits of tourism (Tunde, 2025). Emerging studies emphasize the role of strategic planning and community involvement in maximizing tourism benefits while mitigating negative impacts such as cultural commodification and environmental degradation (Kemi, 2023). This study investigates the economic impacts of tourism in Badagry and explores ways to harness tourism for sustainable local economic development.
Statement of the Problem:
Despite the potential of tourism to boost Badagry’s local economy, infrastructural shortcomings, and inadequate promotional strategies hinder its growth. This study examines the factors that limit tourism development and their subsequent economic implications, thereby identifying critical areas for policy intervention (Sola, 2024).

To assess the economic impact of tourism in Badagry.
To identify challenges in tourism development.
To recommend strategies for sustainable tourism growth.
