ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to examine the promotion of productivity in civil service, Akwa Ibom State. Specifically, the study examined the main cause of productivity decline in the civil service commission and the the measures to be taken in order to arrest the situation in Akwa Ibom State. The study employed the survey descriptive research design. A total of 60 responses were validated from the survey. The study adopted the new public management theory. From the responses obtained and analysed, the findings revealed that adequate knowledge of job acquirement promotes efficiency and effectiveness in the civil service. Furthermore, Recruitment of qualified personals ensure high performance in civil service. The study recommend that qualified personnel should be recruited into the civil service in order to ensure high productivity. More so, official working hours should be used efficiently by staff of the civil service.
