Background of the Study:
Political appointments are a common practice in local government administration, often affecting efficiency and service delivery. In Boki Local Government Area, Cross River State, the appointment of officials based on political considerations rather than professional qualifications has been observed to impact administrative performance. This study examines how political appointments influence local government efficiency, exploring issues such as bureaucratic delays, corruption, and reduced meritocracy (Akin, 2023). The practice of appointing officials for political loyalty rather than competence has long-term implications for public administration. Recent research highlights that while politically motivated appointments may secure loyalty, they often compromise the operational effectiveness of local government institutions (Okoro, 2024). This study aims to analyze the extent to which such appointments affect governance outcomes, drawing on empirical data from Boki.
