Background of the Study:
The nexus between economic policy and technological innovation is increasingly recognized as a driving force behind modern economic development. In Abuja, targeted economic policies introduced between 2010 and 2020 have sought to create a conducive environment for innovation by incentivizing research and development, providing fiscal support, and establishing innovation hubs (Umar, 2023). Such policies have been designed to stimulate technological advancements across various sectors by reducing bureaucratic constraints and fostering collaborations between government, academia, and the private sector (Balogun, 2024). The resulting innovations have spurred improvements in productivity, enhanced service delivery, and contributed to the city’s reputation as a center for technological excellence. Despite these positive trends, challenges such as inconsistent policy implementation, inadequate funding for research, and limited access to cutting–edge technology have tempered the full potential of these initiatives (Okoye, 2025). This study explores how economic policies in Abuja have influenced technological innovation, examining the mechanisms through which policy interventions drive or hinder innovation.
Statement of the Problem:
Even though economic policies in Abuja are designed to promote technological innovation, significant gaps remain between policy objectives and actual innovation outputs. Inconsistent policy application, limited financial support for research, and infrastructural deficiencies have stifled the potential growth of an innovation–driven economy (Umar, 2023). These barriers have contributed to a slower pace of technological advancement than expected, undermining efforts to boost productivity and economic competitiveness. The study aims to identify these obstacles and assess the relationship between economic policy and technological innovation in Abuja (Balogun, 2024), with the goal of proposing actionable strategies to enhance innovation performance (Okoye, 2025).
Objectives of the Study:
• To investigate the influence of economic policies on technological innovation in Abuja.
• To identify the key obstacles affecting the innovation ecosystem.
• To propose strategies for enhancing the synergy between policy and technological advancement.
Research Questions:
• How do economic policies influence technological innovation in Abuja?
• What are the main obstacles hindering the innovation ecosystem?
• What policy measures can strengthen the link between economic policy and innovation?
Research Hypotheses:
• H1: Economic policies significantly affect technological innovation in Abuja.
• H2: Inconsistent policy implementation negatively impacts the innovation ecosystem.
• H3: Increased financial and infrastructural support can enhance technological innovation.
Significance of the Study:
This study provides an in–depth analysis of the relationship between economic policy and technological innovation in Abuja. Its findings will guide policymakers and industry stakeholders in developing strategies that foster an environment conducive to sustained technological advancement and economic growth (Umar, 2023; Balogun, 2024).
Scope and Limitations of the Study:
This study is limited to examining the relationship between economic policy and technological innovation in Abuja, focusing exclusively on policy impacts and innovation outcomes.
Definitions of Terms:
• Economic Policy: Government strategies aimed at regulating economic activities.
• Technological Innovation: The process of developing and implementing new technologies.
• Innovation Ecosystem: A network of institutions and policies that support technological development.
