Background of the Study (≈400 words):

As the global business landscape becomes increasingly complex, ethical decision-making has emerged as a critical competence for future business leaders. In Yola North LGA, Adamawa State, secondary schools are beginning to integrate moral education into their curricula with the specific aim of fostering ethical awareness and decision-making skills among students. The central thesis is that by instilling strong ethical principles early on, students will be better prepared to face the moral dilemmas inherent in the business world (Udo, 2023). Through a variety of pedagogical approaches—such as case studies, debates, and simulation exercises—moral education programs are designed to challenge students to think critically about issues like corporate social responsibility, fairness, and integrity (Okon, 2024). This educational framework is particularly relevant in a region where traditional values intersect with the demands of modern commerce. The curriculum emphasizes the importance of transparency, accountability, and ethical reasoning, thereby equipping students with the skills necessary to navigate complex business environments (Akinola, 2025). In addition, the integration of business ethics into moral education serves to bridge the gap between theoretical moral values and practical decision-making in the corporate sector. Empirical studies have demonstrated that students who receive structured training in ethical decision-making are more likely to adopt responsible business practices in their later professional lives (Ifeanyi, 2023). However, despite these promising developments, there is still uncertainty regarding the extent to which moral education can translate into concrete ethical business decisions. Challenges such as inconsistent teaching methods, limited exposure to real-world business scenarios, and the pervasive influence of unethical practices in some sectors remain significant (Chukwuemeka, 2024). This study seeks to explore the influence of moral education on students’ ability to make ethical business decisions by analyzing both curricular content and the broader socio-cultural context of Yola North LGA. The ultimate goal is to identify strategies that can enhance the practical applicability of moral education in cultivating a new generation of ethically responsible business leaders (Bello, 2025).

Statement of the Problem (≈300 words):

Notwithstanding the integration of business ethics within the moral education curriculum in Yola North LGA, there remains a significant disconnect between ethical instruction and students’ ability to apply these principles in business decision-making contexts. While the curriculum espouses values such as honesty, integrity, and fairness, anecdotal evidence suggests that many students still lack the practical skills to resolve real-world ethical dilemmas. This problem is exacerbated by the limited opportunities for students to engage with real business scenarios during their academic training (Eze, 2023). The theoretical underpinnings of the curriculum, though robust, often fail to translate into concrete decision-making strategies in dynamic business environments. Furthermore, external factors such as market pressures, socio-economic influences, and the prevalence of unethical business practices in some industries challenge the internalization of ethical values (Umeh, 2024). The lack of experiential learning modules and mentorship programs further contributes to this gap, leaving students ill-equipped to navigate complex ethical challenges once they enter the workforce. In light of these issues, there is a pressing need to critically assess the current moral education framework and its effectiveness in fostering ethical business decision-making. This study will systematically explore the factors hindering the practical application of ethical principles in business contexts and propose recommendations for curriculum enhancement. By doing so, it aims to ensure that the moral education provided in secondary schools not only shapes theoretical understanding but also prepares students to make sound ethical decisions in the competitive world of business (Obi, 2025).

Objectives of the Study:

1. To assess the influence of moral education on ethical business decision-making among secondary school students.

2. To identify teaching methodologies that effectively bridge theoretical ethics and practical business applications.

3. To examine the role of external socio-economic factors in moderating the effectiveness of moral education on ethical decision-making.

Research Questions:

1. How does moral education impact students’ ethical decision-making in business contexts?

2. What instructional strategies most effectively translate ethical theory into practical business decisions?

3. How do external factors affect the application of ethical principles in business decision-making among students?

Research Hypotheses:

1. H1: There is a significant positive relationship between moral education and the ability to make ethical business decisions.

2. H2: Experiential learning modules enhance the practical application of ethical principles in business contexts.

3. H3: External socio-economic factors significantly moderate the relationship between moral education and ethical business decision-making.

Significance of the Study (≈100 words):

This study is significant as it addresses the critical intersection of moral education and business ethics, providing insights that could shape the development of ethically responsible future business leaders. By examining the effectiveness of curricular interventions and external influences, the research offers practical recommendations for educators and policymakers. These insights are expected to foster an educational environment that better prepares students for the ethical challenges of modern commerce, thereby contributing to sustainable and responsible business practices (Okeke, 2023).

Scope and Limitations of the Study:

The study is limited to secondary schools in Yola North LGA and focuses exclusively on the effect of moral education on ethical business decision-making. It does not extend to tertiary institutions or other geographic regions and is confined to the analysis of curricular and behavioral outcomes.

Definitions of Terms:

• Ethical Business Decision-making: The process of making business choices that align with moral principles.

• Moral Education: Instruction aimed at developing ethical values and principles.

• Experiential Learning: A learning approach that emphasizes practical, hands-on experience.
