Background of the Study
ATM networks are vital in providing convenient access to banking services. AB Microfinance Bank has embarked on a strategy to expand its ATM network, aiming to enhance customer service by increasing geographic coverage and reducing wait times. The expansion strategy involves installing new ATMs in both urban and rural areas, upgrading existing machines, and integrating real-time monitoring systems to ensure consistent performance (Ike, 2023; Okechukwu, 2024). Improved ATM network coverage is expected to reduce customer complaints, streamline cash transactions, and enhance overall service quality.

Statement of the Problem
Despite aggressive ATM expansion initiatives, AB Microfinance Bank faces challenges in fully optimizing customer service. Integration issues between new ATM installations and legacy systems can lead to service inconsistencies and occasional downtimes. Additionally, regional disparities in network connectivity and maintenance practices may affect the reliability of ATMs, undermining the overall customer experience (Ike, 2023). Without addressing these issues, the benefits of an expanded ATM network in terms of customer service enhancement may not be fully realized.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To evaluate the impact of ATM network expansion on customer service at AB Microfinance Bank.
  2. To identify challenges affecting the performance and reliability of the expanded ATM network.
  3. To recommend strategies for further enhancing ATM service quality and customer satisfaction.

Research Questions

  1. How does ATM network expansion affect customer service at AB Microfinance Bank?
  2. What challenges hinder the reliability and performance of the ATM network?
  3. How can ATM network strategies be optimized to enhance customer service?

Research Hypotheses

  1. H1: ATM network expansion significantly improves customer service at AB Microfinance Bank.
  2. H2: Integration and connectivity challenges negatively impact ATM performance.
  3. H3: Effective maintenance and system upgrades lead to higher customer satisfaction.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study focuses on the ATM network expansion initiatives at AB Microfinance Bank and their impact on customer service. Limitations include regional network disparities and challenges with legacy system integration.

Definitions of Terms
