THE EFFECT OF SCHOOL CLIMATE AND TEACHER PRODUCTIVITY ON STUDENTS ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN SELECTED SECONDARY SCHOOLS

ABSTRACT

This study was carried out on the effect of school climate and teacher productivity on students academic performance using selected secondary schools in ijebu-ode local government, Ogun State as case study. To achieve this 4 research questions were formulated.  The survey design was adopted and the simple random sampling techniques were employed in this study. The population size comprise of all the students and teachers of the selected Government secondary schools in Ijeb-Ode. In determining the sample size, the researcher purposively selected 60 respondents while 50 respondents were validated. Self-constructed and validated questionnaire was used for data collection. The collected and validated questionnaires were analyzed using frequency tables and percentage.

The result of the findings reveals that; teacher’s productivity influence massively the academic achievement of secondary school students; there is a significant relationship between schools climate and students academic performance; there is also a relationship between teacher’s productivity and secondary school student’s academic performance; Schools climate affects teachers productivity on student’s academic performance in a high extent.

  1. Based on the findings, the researcher recommended that Government should ensure adequate availability of schooling or learning infrastructures that will help to create a comfortable learning environment for students and Students should be encouraged to put their personal efforts in academic matters and the government should address teacher shortage and distribution in schools across all the counties among others.
