ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to examine effect of broken home on a child behaviour using Eket local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State as a case study. Specifically, the study was aimed at determining the factors responsible for home breakage, determine the problems of or crisis in marriage affect home, children and society, determine the roles of parent in bringing up a child, determine if broken home have any significant effect on the academic performance of a child, and determine the factors affecting the behavior of children. The study employed the survey descriptive research design. A total of 100 responses were validated from the survey. The study adopted the theory of planned behaviour & theory of reasoned action. From the responses obtained and analysed, the findings revealed that broken home has a significant effect on the behavioural pattern of children. Furthermore parental guidance has significant effect on the behavior of children. The study therefore recommends that teachers in schools should always endeavor to look out for students from broken homes in order to always encourage them as well advice them on how to be better children. Also, parents should always try to cover some pressing issues from their children as they are still much young to understand the situation. More so, parents should date before marriage; this will help create a better understanding among them.
