Background of the Study
Cybersecurity is a critical concern in the digital age, with organizations facing constant threats from cyberattacks. In Jos, Plateau State, computer-based interactive training modules are increasingly recognized as essential tools for raising cybersecurity awareness among professionals and students. These modules combine multimedia elements such as interactive simulations, quizzes, and real-time feedback to educate users about best practices in cybersecurity, threat identification, and response strategies (Ibrahim, 2023). By simulating realistic cyberattack scenarios, these training programs provide hands-on experience that helps users understand the complexities of digital security. The interactivity of these modules allows learners to experiment with different defense strategies and see the consequences of various actions, thereby deepening their understanding of cybersecurity principles (Chinwe, 2024). Advances in educational technology have demonstrated that interactive, computer-based training can significantly improve knowledge retention and practical skill development, which are critical in mitigating cybersecurity risks. This study seeks to optimize these training modules by refining their content, interface design, and adaptive feedback mechanisms to ensure they meet the evolving needs of digital security training. The ultimate goal is to enhance the effectiveness of cybersecurity awareness programs, thereby reducing vulnerabilities and protecting critical information infrastructure (Afolabi, 2025).

Statement of the Problem
Despite the importance of cybersecurity, many individuals in Jos remain underprepared to handle cyber threats due to inadequate training and outdated educational materials (Ibrahim, 2023). Traditional training methods are often passive and fail to simulate real-world cyberattack scenarios, resulting in poor engagement and knowledge retention. Although computer-based interactive modules offer a promising alternative, existing systems are frequently hampered by issues such as complex interfaces, limited interactivity, and lack of personalized feedback, which diminish their overall effectiveness (Chinwe, 2024). Furthermore, the rapid evolution of cyber threats necessitates regular updates to training content, a challenge that many current modules are not equipped to handle. This study aims to address these gaps by optimizing interactive training modules for cybersecurity awareness. The research will evaluate improvements in learner engagement, knowledge retention, and practical application of cybersecurity measures. It will also identify technical and pedagogical challenges and propose strategies to enhance the modules’ usability and adaptability. The goal is to develop a robust training tool that effectively prepares users to identify and respond to cyber threats.

Objectives of the Study
• To optimize the design and functionality of interactive cybersecurity training modules.
• To evaluate their impact on knowledge retention and practical cybersecurity skills.
• To identify and address technical and pedagogical challenges.

Research Questions
• How do optimized interactive modules improve cybersecurity awareness?
• What improvements in learner performance and engagement are observed?
• What challenges affect module usability, and how can they be overcome?

Significance of the Study
This study is significant as it provides a pathway to enhance cybersecurity training through optimized digital modules, thereby reducing cyber risks and improving digital literacy in Jos (Ibrahim, 2023). The findings will inform educators and organizations on best practices for digital security education (Chinwe, 2024).

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study is limited to the optimization and evaluation of computer-based interactive training modules for cybersecurity awareness in Jos, Plateau State. It focuses solely on digital training tools.

Definitions of Terms

  • Interactive Training Modules: Digital educational tools that engage users through simulations and real-time feedback.

  • Cybersecurity Awareness: Knowledge and practices designed to protect against digital threats.

  • Adaptive Learning: A system that personalizes educational content based on user performance.
