Background of the study
Agriculture remains a critical sector for economic development in Nigeria, and effective training in modern farming techniques is essential. At Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, agricultural extension and training programs traditionally rely on field demonstrations and lectures. However, such methods are often limited by logistical challenges, safety concerns, and the variability of on-site conditions. Multimedia-based simulations offer a transformative approach by providing a virtual environment where students can experiment with agricultural practices safely and interactively. These simulations integrate videos, animations, and interactive modules to demonstrate crop management, soil testing, and pest control techniques. By replicating real-world scenarios, multimedia simulations can help learners understand the complexities of modern agriculture without the constraints of a physical field. Additionally, such systems can be updated rapidly with new techniques and technologies, ensuring that training remains current and relevant. Multimedia simulations also cater to diverse learning styles, enhancing knowledge retention and practical skills. Despite these advantages, challenges remain in the deployment of multimedia systems, including high initial development costs, limited technical support, and potential resistance from instructors accustomed to traditional methods. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of multimedia-based simulations in enhancing agricultural training at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, examining improvements in student engagement, practical skills, and overall learning outcomes. The research will also identify obstacles to successful implementation and propose strategies to optimize these systems for widespread use in agricultural education (Adeola, 2023; Ibrahim, 2024; Chinaza, 2023).

Statement of the problem
Traditional agricultural training at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, often fails to provide a comprehensive, hands-on learning experience due to constraints such as limited field access, seasonal variability, and resource shortages. While multimedia-based simulations promise to deliver interactive and realistic training experiences, their effectiveness is compromised by factors such as high development costs, limited digital infrastructure, and a lack of trained personnel to operate these systems. Many students do not fully benefit from current training methods because they are unable to practice techniques repeatedly in a controlled environment. Additionally, there is a disconnect between theoretical training and practical application in real-world settings. These challenges hinder the capacity of agricultural training programs to prepare students for modern farming practices, thereby affecting productivity and innovation in the sector. This study aims to address these issues by evaluating the impact of multimedia-based simulations on student learning outcomes and practical skills in agriculture. It will identify the primary technical, financial, and operational barriers to effective implementation and propose strategies to optimize simulation tools, ensuring they are accessible, user-friendly, and aligned with current agricultural practices (Ibrahim, 2024; Adeola, 2023; Chinaza, 2023).

Objectives of the study
• To assess the impact of multimedia-based simulations on agricultural training outcomes.
• To identify challenges in the deployment and use of simulation tools.
• To propose strategies for optimizing multimedia simulations for agricultural education.

Research questions
• How do multimedia simulations enhance the practical learning of agricultural techniques?
• What are the main technical and financial challenges in implementing these systems?
• How can the effectiveness and accessibility of multimedia simulations be improved?

Significance of the study
This study is significant as it offers innovative solutions to enhance agricultural training through multimedia simulations, thereby improving practical skills and knowledge among students, which can lead to higher productivity and sustainable farming practices (Adeola, 2023; Ibrahim, 2024).

Scope and limitations of the study
The study is confined to the use of multimedia-based simulations in agricultural training at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto. Limitations include high development costs, digital infrastructure constraints, and limited technical expertise.

Definitions of terms
