ABSTRACT
The broad objective of this study is to examine an evaluation of the nature and impact of planning on organisational performance. The study specifically established the nature of planning, determine the principles and process of effective planning and determine the impact of planning on organizational performance. Survey research design was employed for the study and with aid of convenient sampling selected Thirty-Six (36) participant who are staff in Nigerian Breweries PLC as the sample size for this study. The sources of data collection was both primary and secondary with the application of questionnaires as an instrument to gather the necessary data. The questionnaires were properly completed as well returned by only 30 respondent after being administered and this was a basis by which the primary data were collected. Primary data collated was analyzed using mean and standard deviation presented in frequencies and tables and the result were similar to those of the responses drawn from the questionnaires. Hypotheses was tested using Chi-Square statiscal package for social science (SPSS). The result of the study shows that planning to involve developing objectives or the organizational strategic plans and looking for resources that would best be suited in achieving the organizational goals as outlined in strategic plans. The planning process also creates timelines for when the plans should be achieved. Planning also involves developing the tracking and assessment method that will be used to monitor the project process. It provides the information top management needs to make effective decisions, Productivity is maximized Corporate planning intensity causes organizational growth and in turn, organizational growth causes greater corporate planning intensity, Corporate planning improves the organizational growth. The study recommends the management of Access Bank, as a matter of necessity and in order to improve their level of performance in the manufacturing industry, should look beyond the issue of clear objectives to effectively and efficiently communicate to those pre-determined and clearly stated objectives to all organizational members with the responsibility of executing this task. More so, employees should be allowed to participate actively in the process of decision making. Participation makes employees more responsible. It also gives them a feeling of dignity, status and recognition.
