Background of the Study
The rapid evolution of genomic technologies has generated vast amounts of DNA sequence data, necessitating user-friendly tools for data analysis. Mobile applications offer a flexible and accessible platform for bioinformatics analysis, allowing researchers and clinicians to access genetic information on the go. At Benue State University, Makurdi, researchers are designing a mobile application for DNA sequence analysis aimed at simplifying the process of variant detection, alignment, and annotation. The application leverages cloud-based computing to process high-throughput sequencing data and integrates advanced algorithms for sequence alignment and variant calling (Ibrahim, 2023). It provides interactive visualization tools that enable users to explore DNA sequences and identify mutations with ease. The app is designed with an intuitive user interface that caters to both experts and non-specialists, promoting broader accessibility to genomic data analysis. Additionally, real-time data updates and integration with global genomic databases ensure that the application remains current with the latest research findings (Chukwu, 2024). The interdisciplinary approach, involving software developers, bioinformaticians, and geneticists, ensures that the tool is robust, accurate, and user-friendly. Ultimately, the mobile application is expected to streamline genomic data analysis, facilitate collaborative research, and support decision-making in personalized medicine, thereby contributing to improved healthcare outcomes (Adebayo, 2023).

Statement of the Problem
Despite the advancements in DNA sequencing, the analysis of genetic data remains largely confined to desktop-based systems, which can be inaccessible and cumbersome in field settings. At Benue State University, the lack of a mobile platform for DNA sequence analysis restricts researchers and clinicians from conducting real-time analysis outside the laboratory (Bello, 2023). Traditional tools often require extensive computational resources and technical expertise, limiting their utility in resource-constrained environments. Moreover, the absence of an integrated mobile solution hampers timely data interpretation, resulting in delays in diagnosis and research outcomes. There is a pressing need for a mobile application that simplifies DNA sequence analysis and provides rapid, accurate results. This study aims to address these challenges by developing a mobile app that automates data processing, integrates cloud computing for enhanced scalability, and offers user-friendly visualization tools. The app is expected to reduce the complexity of genomic data analysis, making it accessible to a wider range of users and facilitating on-the-spot decision-making in clinical and research settings. By overcoming these limitations, the proposed mobile application will enhance the efficiency of genomic analysis and promote the adoption of personalized medicine practices in Nigeria (Okafor, 2024).

Objectives of the Study

  1. To design and develop a mobile application for DNA sequence analysis.

  2. To integrate cloud-based processing for efficient sequence alignment and variant calling.

  3. To evaluate the app’s usability and accuracy in real-world scenarios.

Research Questions

  1. How can mobile platforms be leveraged for efficient DNA sequence analysis?

  2. What computational methods can be integrated into the app for accurate variant detection?

  3. How does the mobile application improve accessibility and user experience compared to traditional tools?

Significance of the Study
This study is significant as it introduces a mobile application for DNA sequence analysis, enhancing accessibility and efficiency in genomic research. By providing real-time analysis and user-friendly interfaces, the app will support personalized medicine and facilitate rapid clinical decision-making, particularly in resource-limited settings (Ibrahim, 2023).

Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study is limited to the design, development, and evaluation of the mobile application at Benue State University, focusing on DNA sequence analysis without extending to other genomic data types.
