Background of the Study
Cybersecurity is a critical issue in today’s digital age, as both public and private sector organizations face increasing risks of cyberattacks. In Nigeria, government agencies like the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) are responsible for protecting national assets, including critical infrastructure. However, with the growing sophistication of cyber threats, traditional cybersecurity systems are increasingly inadequate. Quantum computing presents an innovative solution to the cybersecurity challenges faced by organizations globally. Quantum-assisted cybersecurity, which involves using quantum algorithms to enhance encryption and data protection, has the potential to provide a higher level of security by exploiting the principles of quantum mechanics.

The NSCDC, Sokoto State, plays an essential role in protecting the nation’s security infrastructure, and integrating quantum-assisted cybersecurity systems could help mitigate the risks of cyberattacks. This study will explore the design and implementation of quantum-assisted cybersecurity systems at NSCDC, Sokoto State, and evaluate how quantum computing can be used to bolster security measures. The investigation will assess the feasibility of implementing quantum cybersecurity systems, considering the unique challenges of the agency and the potential benefits it offers.

Statement of the Problem
Cybersecurity is a pressing concern for governmental organizations, especially those responsible for national security. The increasing sophistication of cyber threats requires advanced protection mechanisms, such as quantum-assisted cybersecurity, which can provide stronger encryption and safeguard sensitive data. However, implementing quantum-based cybersecurity systems in the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) remains unexplored. This study aims to investigate the design and implementation challenges of integrating quantum computing-based cybersecurity systems into NSCDC’s existing infrastructure.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To design a quantum-assisted cybersecurity system for NSCDC, Sokoto State.

  2. To assess the feasibility of implementing quantum-based security systems within NSCDC’s existing infrastructure.

  3. To evaluate the potential impact of quantum-assisted cybersecurity in enhancing NSCDC’s data protection capabilities.

Research Questions

  1. How can quantum computing enhance cybersecurity systems at NSCDC, Sokoto State?

  2. What are the challenges of implementing quantum-assisted cybersecurity systems at NSCDC, Sokoto State?

  3. What impact can quantum computing have on the security and efficiency of NSCDC’s operations?

Significance of the Study
This study will contribute to the enhancement of cybersecurity within Nigeria’s national security infrastructure by investigating how quantum computing can provide more robust and efficient security measures. The findings will be valuable for decision-makers in government security agencies, guiding the adoption of quantum computing for national security applications.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus on the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Sokoto State, and will not cover other regions or security agencies in Nigeria.

Definitions of Terms
