Background of the Study

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are among the leading causes of mortality globally, and their prevention is essential to reducing the burden on healthcare systems. Public knowledge and awareness about cardiovascular disease prevention play a crucial role in reducing risk factors such as hypertension, smoking, physical inactivity, and unhealthy diets. In Zamfara State, the level of public awareness about CVD prevention may vary significantly across different communities. While urban areas may benefit from better health education campaigns, rural areas may experience challenges in accessing health information and understanding preventive measures. This study will evaluate the level of public knowledge regarding CVD prevention in Zamfara State and identify gaps in understanding that may hinder effective disease prevention.

Statement of the Problem

Despite the growing prevalence of cardiovascular diseases in Zamfara State, there is limited information on the general public's knowledge of CVD prevention strategies. Inadequate awareness of preventive measures can contribute to the rising rates of heart disease, stroke, and related health conditions in the state. Understanding the level of public knowledge and the factors that influence it is essential for developing targeted health education programs that can effectively promote cardiovascular disease prevention.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To assess the level of public knowledge about cardiovascular disease prevention in Zamfara State.
  2. To identify the factors influencing public awareness and understanding of CVD prevention in the state.
  3. To provide recommendations for improving public education and awareness campaigns on CVD prevention in Zamfara State.

Research Questions

  1. What is the level of public knowledge about cardiovascular disease prevention in Zamfara State?
  2. What factors influence public knowledge of CVD prevention in Zamfara State?
  3. How can health education programs be improved to enhance public knowledge about CVD prevention in Zamfara State?

Research Hypotheses

  1. The level of public knowledge about cardiovascular disease prevention is low in Zamfara State.
  2. Socio-economic factors such as education, income, and occupation significantly influence public knowledge of cardiovascular disease prevention.
  3. Health education campaigns significantly improve public knowledge about CVD prevention in Zamfara State.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

The study will focus on the general public in Zamfara State, including both urban and rural populations. The limitations may include challenges in reaching remote areas for data collection and potential biases in self-reported knowledge.
