In Adamawa State, as in many other parts of Nigeria, traditional communication channels such as local assemblies, town criers, and informal networks play a vital role in conveying important health messages to communities. These methods are often used in areas where modern communication infrastructure, like television or the internet, is limited or unavailable. While these traditional methods have been integral in promoting health awareness, their effectiveness in conveying accurate health information and influencing behavior remains largely under-researched. This study seeks to explore the role and impact of traditional communication channels in health education within Adamawa State.
Despite the increasing reach of modern media, traditional communication channels remain an essential means of disseminating health information in Adamawa State. However, the reliability and effectiveness of these channels in promoting public health education have not been systematically examined. This study aims to investigate the role of these traditional methods in health communication, focusing on their effectiveness in promoting health education, especially regarding infectious diseases, maternal health, and sanitation.
This study will focus on rural and semi-urban areas of Adamawa State where traditional communication channels are predominantly used. Limitations include potential biases in the reporting of health education effectiveness and the challenge of measuring long-term behavioral change due to these communication methods.
