Traditional medicine has been an integral part of healthcare in many African societies, including Nigeria. In Kaduna State, traditional healers play a vital role in providing healthcare, especially in rural areas where formal healthcare infrastructure may be limited. The integration of traditional medicine into formal healthcare systems has been a subject of increasing interest, as it offers a way to complement modern medical treatments and address the cultural preferences of local communities. This study seeks to examine how traditional medicine is integrated into community healthcare in Kaduna State, exploring the benefits, challenges, and potential for improved healthcare delivery when traditional medicine is used alongside conventional healthcare practices.
While traditional medicine is widely used in Kaduna State, its integration into formal healthcare systems is still underdeveloped. There is little evidence regarding the formal recognition of traditional medicine within the state's healthcare framework. This study seeks to explore the ways in which traditional medicine can be effectively integrated into community healthcare, assessing the extent to which this integration can improve healthcare outcomes while maintaining cultural relevance.
This study will focus on traditional medicine practices in community healthcare in Kaduna State. Limitations may include the difficulty in obtaining data from traditional healers due to lack of formal documentation, the influence of cultural factors, and the complexity of integrating diverse healing practices into formal systems.
