Background of the Study

Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) play a vital role in healthcare policy advocacy, particularly in regions where government interventions are inadequate. NGOs contribute by influencing policy formulation, providing healthcare services, and advocating for reforms that improve healthcare accessibility and quality. Their efforts often focus on marginalized communities, ensuring that health policies address the needs of vulnerable populations.

In Gombe State, healthcare challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, poor funding, and limited access to quality medical services persist. NGOs have been instrumental in bridging these gaps by supporting immunization programs, maternal health initiatives, and disease prevention campaigns. However, the extent of their impact on policy advocacy remains underexplored. This study will assess the role of NGOs in shaping healthcare policies in Gombe State, examining their strategies, challenges, and effectiveness in influencing health reforms.

Statement of the Problem

Despite the presence of NGOs in Gombe State, healthcare policy implementation still faces significant obstacles, including bureaucratic inefficiencies, poor government commitment, and resistance to policy changes. The influence of NGOs in shaping policies is often hindered by political factors, funding limitations, and regulatory constraints.

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of NGO-led healthcare advocacy in Gombe State, identifying key contributions, obstacles, and potential strategies to enhance their impact on policy formulation and implementation.
