Background of the Study
Cybersecurity threats continue to be a major concern for universities, especially with the increasing reliance on digital platforms for academic, administrative, and financial activities (Adelakun et al., 2024). University portals, which host sensitive student and faculty data, are prime targets for cyberattacks, making it imperative to implement strong security measures. Blockchain technology, known for its decentralized and tamper-resistant nature, has emerged as a promising solution for enhancing cybersecurity (Martínez et al., 2023). By using blockchain, Modibbo Adama University, Yola, located in Yola North LGA, Adamawa State, can improve the security of its university portal, protecting it from data breaches, unauthorized access, and fraud.
Statement of the Problem
Modibbo Adama University, Yola, faces significant cybersecurity risks related to the vulnerability of its university portal. The lack of advanced, robust security measures has made the portal susceptible to unauthorized access and potential data theft. Traditional security mechanisms, such as password protection and firewalls, are not sufficient to address the increasing sophistication of cyberattacks. Blockchain technology presents a potential solution to these problems by offering secure, transparent, and immutable data management.

Research Questions
Research Hypotheses
Significance of the Study
This study will contribute to improving cybersecurity in university portals, with potential applications in other higher education institutions. By investigating the feasibility and effectiveness of blockchain technology, the study will provide valuable insights into the protection of sensitive student and administrative data.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on implementing and evaluating a blockchain-based security system for the university portal at Modibbo Adama University, Yola, within Yola North LGA. The study will not address broader university cybersecurity policies or other systems outside of the university portal.
