Background of the Study
Student union elections are a critical aspect of university governance, but traditional voting systems often suffer from issues like fraud, lack of transparency, and security vulnerabilities. At Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University in Bauchi, located in Bauchi LGA, Bauchi State, these issues have raised concerns regarding the integrity of the election process. Blockchain technology, known for its decentralized and immutable nature, offers a promising solution to these challenges by ensuring secure, transparent, and tamper-proof voting systems.

This study aims to design a secure electronic voting system for student union elections at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University using blockchain technology. By integrating blockchain into the voting process, this system could ensure that votes are accurately recorded, anonymous, and verifiable, providing greater confidence in the election results.

Statement of the Problem
The current student union election system at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University lacks sufficient security, leading to potential concerns over vote manipulation, transparency, and trust in the electoral process. The introduction of a blockchain-based e-voting system could address these issues by providing a secure and transparent platform for students to cast their votes.

Objectives of the Study

1. To design an AI-powered secure e-voting system using blockchain for student union elections at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University.

2. To evaluate the security, transparency, and efficiency of the blockchain-based e-voting system.

3. To assess the feasibility of implementing the e-voting system within the university’s electoral framework.

Research Questions

1. How can blockchain technology be used to design a secure and transparent e-voting system for student union elections?

2. What is the potential impact of blockchain-based e-voting on the security and trustworthiness of student elections?

3. How feasible is the implementation of a blockchain-based e-voting system in a university setting?

Research Hypotheses

1. A blockchain-based e-voting system will significantly improve the security and transparency of student union elections.

2. The implementation of blockchain for e-voting will reduce the potential for electoral fraud and manipulation.

3. Students and election organizers will perceive blockchain-based e-voting as more secure and trustworthy than traditional voting methods.

Significance of the Study
This study will demonstrate the potential of blockchain technology to improve the electoral process in academic institutions. The findings could provide valuable insights for Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University and other universities looking to modernize and secure their student union election systems.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on the design and evaluation of a blockchain-based e-voting system for student union elections at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, located in Bauchi LGA, Bauchi State. It will not cover other aspects of university governance or election systems beyond student elections.

Definitions of Terms

• Blockchain Technology: A decentralized digital ledger that records transactions across multiple computers in a way that prevents alteration or tampering.

• E-Voting: The process of casting votes electronically, often through a secure online platform.

• Student Union Elections: Elections in which students vote for representatives to manage student activities and governance within the university.

• Security: The protection of voting data from unauthorized access, tampering, and fraud.
