Background of the Study
As the global job market continues to evolve, universities must find innovative ways to support their graduates in securing meaningful employment. AI-based job recommendation systems have emerged as a powerful tool to bridge the gap between university graduates and potential employers by offering personalized job recommendations based on the graduates’ academic profiles, skills, interests, and career goals (Zhou et al., 2023). These systems use machine learning algorithms to analyze large amounts of data from both job seekers and employers, matching the most suitable candidates with job openings in real-time (Nguyen & Trinh, 2023). The AI-driven approach allows for better targeting of job opportunities and provides valuable insights into labor market trends.

At Umaru Musa Yar’adua University in Katsina State, such a system could offer a unique service to graduates, enhancing their chances of securing employment and supporting the university’s mission of providing career support to its students (Aliyu & Bello, 2023). This study aims to develop and analyze an AI-based job recommendation system tailored to the needs of graduates from Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, evaluating its effectiveness in improving graduate employment outcomes.

Statement of the Problem
Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, Katsina State, faces challenges in assisting graduates with job placement. The university’s current career services are often overwhelmed, and many graduates struggle to find job opportunities that align with their academic background, skills, and career goals. This study aims to determine whether an AI-based job recommendation system can enhance graduate employability by providing personalized job matches, improving the effectiveness of the university’s career services.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To design and implement an AI-based job recommendation system for graduates of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University.
  2. To evaluate the effectiveness of the AI-based system in matching graduates with appropriate job opportunities.
  3. To assess the impact of the job recommendation system on graduate employment rates.

Research Questions

  1. How effective is the AI-based job recommendation system in matching graduates with relevant job opportunities?
  2. What are the key factors influencing the accuracy of the job recommendations provided by the AI system?
  3. How does the implementation of the AI-based system affect graduate employment outcomes?

Research Hypotheses

  1. The AI-based job recommendation system will result in more successful job placements compared to traditional career services methods.
  2. Graduate skills, academic performance, and job market trends will be the most significant factors influencing job recommendations.
  3. Graduates who utilize the AI-based job recommendation system will experience higher employment rates than those who do not.

Significance of the Study
The study will offer significant insights into how AI can enhance career services at Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, ultimately improving graduate employment outcomes. The implementation of such a system will also serve as a model for other universities in Nigeria, providing a more efficient and personalized approach to job placement.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This research will focus on the development, implementation, and evaluation of the AI-based job recommendation system for graduates of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, Katsina. The study will be limited to recent graduates and will not include alumni who have been out of school for extended periods.
