Background of the Study

E-tutoring platforms have emerged as a promising solution to address the limitations of traditional face-to-face tutoring by offering online academic support to students. AI-based e-tutoring platforms use intelligent systems to deliver personalized tutoring experiences, provide real-time feedback, and adapt to students' learning needs. These platforms can assess students’ learning styles and performance levels and tailor the tutoring sessions accordingly, thereby providing an interactive and customized learning experience. This study investigates the potential of AI-based e-tutoring platforms in improving academic performance at Sokoto State University, Sokoto State, by offering personalized learning and on-demand academic support to students.

Statement of the Problem

At Sokoto State University, students often face challenges in understanding complex academic concepts, especially in large classes where individual attention is limited. Traditional tutoring methods may not be sufficient to meet the diverse learning needs of all students. AI-based e-tutoring platforms can offer scalable, personalized tutoring services that address individual learning gaps. However, the effectiveness and implementation of such platforms in a university setting remain underexplored. This study seeks to investigate the potential benefits of AI-powered e-tutoring platforms in improving student academic performance and overall learning experience at Sokoto State University.

Objectives of the Study

1. To design and implement an AI-based e-tutoring platform for students at Sokoto State University.

2. To evaluate the effectiveness of the AI-based platform in improving students' understanding of key academic subjects.

3. To assess students' satisfaction and engagement with the AI-powered e-tutoring platform.

Research Questions

1. How effective is the AI-based e-tutoring platform in enhancing students' understanding of academic subjects at Sokoto State University?

2. What factors influence the students’ engagement and satisfaction with the AI-based e-tutoring platform?

3. How can the AI-based platform be integrated into the university’s existing academic framework to provide continuous support for students?

Research Hypotheses

1. The AI-based e-tutoring platform will improve students’ understanding of academic subjects and their overall academic performance.

2. The use of personalized tutoring strategies in the AI platform will increase student engagement and satisfaction.

3. The integration of the AI-based e-tutoring platform into the academic system will lead to more effective learning support and better student outcomes.

Significance of the Study

This study will provide insights into the effectiveness of AI-based e-tutoring platforms in higher education. By investigating the implementation and impact of such platforms at Sokoto State University, it will contribute to the growing body of research on AI applications in education and offer valuable recommendations for improving academic support systems.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

The scope of the study is focused on designing, implementing, and evaluating the AI-based e-tutoring platform at Sokoto State University. Limitations include the challenges of integrating the platform with the university's existing academic infrastructure and the availability of data on student learning preferences and performance.
