Background of the Study
Community health volunteers (CHVs) play a crucial role in expanding healthcare access, particularly in vaccine advocacy. In many low-resource settings, CHVs help bridge the gap between healthcare providers and the community, increasing vaccine awareness and acceptance. In Kwara State, where immunization coverage faces barriers such as vaccine hesitancy, misinformation, and logistical challenges, CHVs serve as frontline workers promoting immunization campaigns (WHO, 2024). Their efforts include educating caregivers, tracking immunization schedules, and dispelling myths surrounding vaccines. However, the effectiveness of their advocacy has not been extensively evaluated.
Statement of the Problem
Despite the presence of CHVs in Kwara State, immunization rates remain suboptimal due to persistent challenges such as vaccine hesitancy and lack of awareness. This study seeks to assess the effectiveness of CHVs in vaccine advocacy and identify the factors influencing their impact.
Objectives of the Study
1. To evaluate the role of community health volunteers in vaccine advocacy.
2. To assess the impact of CHV-led vaccine awareness campaigns on immunization uptake.
3. To identify challenges faced by CHVs in vaccine advocacy.
Research Questions
1. How do community health volunteers contribute to vaccine advocacy in Kwara State?
2. What impact do CHV-led awareness campaigns have on immunization rates?
3. What are the key challenges limiting the effectiveness of CHVs in vaccine advocacy?
Research Hypotheses
1. CHVs significantly improve vaccine awareness and acceptance.
2. CHV-led campaigns increase immunization uptake among caregivers.
3. Limited training and logistical support hinder the effectiveness of CHVs.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus on CHVs, caregivers, and healthcare professionals in Kwara State. Limitations may include self-reported biases and difficulties in accessing rural CHVs.
