Background of the Study

Floods are among the most common natural disasters, causing significant damage to property and loss of life. Flood-prone communities must have adequate disaster preparedness education to mitigate the impacts of flooding. In Gombe State, the effectiveness of such educational programs in vulnerable communities needs to be assessed.

Statement of the Problem

Despite the recurrent nature of floods in Gombe State, there is limited information on the effectiveness of disaster preparedness education in flood-prone communities. This gap may result in inadequate preparedness and increased vulnerability.

Objectives of the Study

1. Evaluate the current state of flood disaster preparedness education in flood-prone communities of Gombe State.

2. Assess the awareness and preparedness levels of community members regarding flood disasters.

3. Identify challenges in implementing effective flood disaster preparedness education.

Research Questions

1. What is the current state of flood disaster preparedness education in flood-prone communities of Gombe State?

2. How aware and prepared are community members for potential flood disasters?

3. What challenges exist in implementing effective flood disaster preparedness education?

Research Hypotheses

1. Flood-prone communities in Gombe State have inadequate disaster preparedness education.

2. Community members have low levels of awareness and preparedness for flood disasters.

3. There are significant challenges hindering the implementation of effective flood disaster preparedness education.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

The study will focus on communities in Gombe State identified as flood-prone. Limitations may include variability in community engagement, access to educational resources, and potential biases in self-reported preparedness levels.

Definitions of Terms

• Disaster Preparedness Education: Programs designed to inform and prepare individuals and communities for potential disasters.

• Flood-Prone Communities: Areas that are susceptible to frequent or severe flooding events.
