Background of the Study

Education is a process, which may be formal or informal, that enlightens, builds, and develops both the body and the intellect, and therefore makes use of all available resources in the most wise manner to make the educated man most helpful to himself, the community, and the country at large (Nwachukwu, 2015). In its most basic form, education may be seen as a means of parenting and nourishing the person in order to allow him or her to mature, develop, and acquire the skills, information, attitude, and values that will effectively introduce him or her into their society. As a person progresses through life, he learns to think with his mind, to love with his heart, to labor with his hands, and to completely develop himself for the sake of his personal well-being as well as the well-being of the community in which he lives. It is generally accepted that entrepreneurs are an essential component of the business culture of any country, especially in their capacity as a driver of economic expansion and the production of new jobs. Biology as an applied topic of study is quite varied in character, and it is able to make it possible for individuals who have studied it to find work in a variety of settings.

The study of life is referred to as biology by most people. This refers to the investigation of life in its entirety. In other words, biology is a branch of the natural sciences that investigates living things and the ways in which they communicate with one another and their surroundings. The structure, function, growth, origin, evolution, and dispersion of living things are investigated in this field of study. The fundamental ideas that underpin contemporary biology may be summed up in four overarching themes. These are the theories of evolution, genetics, homeostasis, and the cell theory. Biology is recognized as an essential academic discipline and is thus taught in schools and universities all around the globe (Pascal, 2017). The study of biology, sometimes known as the "science of life," may make one's existence more joyful and has a special place in the educational system in Nigeria. In primary and junior secondary schools, biology is referred to as Basic Science. In senior secondary schools, however, it is simply called Biology. Finally, in tertiary institutions, biology is broken down into numerous subfields, including botany, zoology, animal science, agricultural science, microbiology, and biochemistry.

The study of biology makes a contribution toward the accomplishment of the overarching aims of education. This is reliant on the method that is used to teach it. It has the potential to contribute significantly to the students' overall growth and development when it is taught effectively via the use of activity-based methods of education, such as the inquiry method. To accomplish this goal, educators working in higher education institutions as well as secondary schools should do all in their power to develop students who will not be a burden on the economy of their country (Ezema, 2020). This can be accomplished by teaching students that it is one hundred times preferable to be innovative, creative, self-reliant, entrepreneurial, and productive as opposed to being dependent on the government for employment and other essentials of life. This can be accomplished by guiding the students in this realization. But because of the manner that biology is taught to students, this objective has not truly been accomplished in the field of biology education. Therefore, this study seeks to examine motivation as a correlate on students embarking on biology related business after graduation in aninri local government area Enugu state.
