Background of the Study
Air pollution is a major public health issue, contributing to respiratory diseases such as asthma, bronchitis, and lung infections (WHO, 2024). The increase in industrialization, urbanization, and vehicular emissions has led to a significant rise in air pollution levels, negatively impacting respiratory health.
In Kwara State, urban areas experience increasing air pollution due to traffic congestion, industrial activities, and improper waste disposal (Ibrahim & Yusuf, 2024). Public awareness campaigns on air pollution seek to educate residents about its dangers, encourage behavioral changes, and promote policies that mitigate pollution. However, the effectiveness of these campaigns in improving respiratory health remains largely unexplored.
This study evaluates the impact of air pollution awareness campaigns on respiratory health in Kwara State, assessing whether increased awareness translates into better health outcomes.
Statement of the Problem
Despite efforts to promote awareness of air pollution and its health risks, respiratory diseases continue to rise in Kwara State. Many residents remain unaware of pollution sources and preventive measures (Adepoju & Salami, 2024). Additionally, enforcement of air quality regulations is weak, leading to continued exposure to harmful pollutants.
This study seeks to determine the effectiveness of air pollution awareness campaigns in promoting respiratory health and to identify barriers to their success.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study focuses on urban and peri-urban areas in Kwara State, examining the impact of air pollution awareness campaigns. Limitations include differences in exposure levels, variations in literacy rates, and challenges in measuring long-term respiratory health outcomes.
