Background of the Study
In today's digital world, students are increasingly using technology for learning, communication, and socialization. However, this increased digital presence also exposes them to various information security threats, such as identity theft, cyberbullying, and online scams. In secondary schools in Damaturu Local Government Area, Yobe State, students may not fully understand the risks associated with their online activities or the importance of protecting their personal information.
Information security awareness programs are crucial to help students recognize the risks of online activities and teach them how to protect themselves. These programs can include educating students about secure online practices, recognizing phishing attempts, safeguarding personal data, and using strong passwords. Incorporating information security education into the school curriculum, along with interactive workshops and online simulations, can help students become more aware of the potential risks and adopt safe digital practices.
Statement of the Problem
Students in secondary schools in Damaturu lack sufficient awareness of information security risks, leaving them vulnerable to cyber threats. This lack of awareness puts students' personal information and online activities at risk, which can have long-term consequences.
Objectives of the Study

Research Hypotheses

Students in Damaturu have low levels of information security awareness.

Significance of the Study
This study will help improve the safety and security of students' online activities by increasing their awareness of information security risks. The findings could lead to the integration of information security education into school curricula across the region, fostering a safer digital environment for students.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on secondary schools in Damaturu Local Government Area, Yobe State, and will assess the effectiveness of an information security awareness program. Limitations may include students' initial reluctance to adopt secure online behaviors or challenges in delivering the program to all students.
