Background of the study
Attendance tracking is a vital administrative task in secondary schools, as it helps monitor student engagement and ensure that students are consistently present for their studies. Traditional manual attendance systems, however, are prone to errors, time-consuming, and prone to misuse, especially in large classrooms (Aliyu & Suleiman, 2023). This poses challenges for teachers and school administrators in ensuring accurate attendance records and maintaining school discipline.
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology provides a promising solution for automating attendance monitoring in secondary schools. RFID tags, which are worn by students, can be detected by readers placed at entry points, automatically recording the time and presence of students without requiring manual input (Zubairu & Ibrahim, 2023). This system can significantly improve the efficiency of attendance tracking, reduce administrative workload, and enhance the accuracy and transparency of attendance records.
This study aims to design and implement a smart attendance monitoring system using RFID technology for secondary schools in Dutse Local Government Area, Jigawa State, to improve attendance tracking and reporting.
Statement of the problem
Secondary schools in Dutse Local Government Area still rely on manual methods for tracking student attendance, which is time-consuming, inaccurate, and prone to human errors. This study aims to design and implement an RFID-based attendance monitoring system to automate the attendance process, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
Objectives of the study
To design an RFID-based attendance monitoring system for secondary schools in Dutse Local Government Area, Jigawa State.
To implement the RFID-based system in selected schools and assess its effectiveness.
To evaluate the impact of the RFID-based system on the efficiency and accuracy of attendance tracking in secondary schools.
Research questions
How effective is the RFID-based attendance monitoring system in improving the accuracy and efficiency of attendance tracking in secondary schools?
What impact does the system have on reducing administrative workload and saving time in attendance management?
How do students and teachers perceive the usability and functionality of the RFID-based attendance system?
Significance of the study
The study will provide a practical solution for improving attendance monitoring in secondary schools in Dutse, Jigawa State. The findings will help to improve the accuracy and efficiency of student attendance tracking, reduce administrative burden, and ensure better management of student engagement in schools.
Scope and limitations of the study
This study will focus on designing and implementing the RFID-based attendance monitoring system for secondary schools in Dutse Local Government Area, Jigawa State. The study will not extend to other regions or educational levels beyond secondary schools.
