Background of the study
With advancements in digital education, the use of online and offline learning resources has become a major focus in secondary schools. Online resources include digital content available on the internet, such as educational websites, e-books, and video tutorials, while offline resources are materials that do not require internet access, such as textbooks, CDs, and printed notes (Mohammed & Usman, 2023). Both online and offline resources have unique advantages and limitations. Online resources provide up-to-date information, interactive content, and flexibility in learning, but they require reliable internet access, which may be a limitation in rural or remote areas. Offline resources, on the other hand, can be used without an internet connection and are often more accessible in areas with poor connectivity (Adekunle & Ibrahim, 2023).
In Sokoto North Local Government Area, secondary schools are increasingly incorporating both online and offline learning resources. However, there is limited research on how these two types of resources compare in terms of student performance, accessibility, and educational outcomes. This study will explore the effectiveness of online and offline learning resources in Sokoto North secondary schools.
Statement of the problem
Despite the growing reliance on online resources, many secondary schools in Sokoto North still use offline resources due to inconsistent internet access and the costs associated with digital content. There is a need to assess whether online resources provide better learning outcomes than offline resources or if offline resources are still more effective in certain contexts. This study will investigate the advantages and challenges of both types of learning resources in secondary schools in Sokoto North.
Objectives of the study
To compare the effectiveness of online and offline learning resources in terms of student performance in Sokoto North secondary schools.
To assess the accessibility and affordability of online versus offline learning resources in Sokoto North secondary schools.
To explore the challenges and benefits of using online and offline learning resources in Sokoto North secondary schools.
Research questions
How do online learning resources compare to offline learning resources in terms of student performance in Sokoto North secondary schools?
What are the differences in accessibility and affordability between online and offline learning resources in Sokoto North secondary schools?
What challenges and benefits do Sokoto North secondary schools face when using online versus offline learning resources?
Significance of the study
This study will provide important insights for educators, school administrators, and policymakers in Sokoto North Local Government Area regarding the most effective and accessible learning resources for students, especially in areas with limited internet connectivity.
Scope and limitations of the study
This study is limited to secondary schools in Sokoto North Local Government Area, Sokoto State, and compares the effectiveness of online and offline learning resources. The study does not include primary education or schools outside the specified region.
