Background of the study
As education systems increasingly integrate technology, digital teaching methods are becoming a critical component of modern education. Digital teaching methods, such as online lectures, multimedia presentations, and interactive simulations, allow for more flexible learning and cater to a variety of learning styles (Mishra et al., 2023). These methods can also provide immediate feedback to students, support collaborative learning, and enhance the overall learning experience.

In contrast, traditional teaching methods, which primarily rely on face-to-face interaction, written textbooks, and chalkboard instruction, continue to be widely used in many secondary schools. This study will compare the effectiveness of traditional and digital teaching methods in secondary schools in Katsina Local Government Area, assessing the impact on student learning outcomes, including academic performance, knowledge retention, and critical thinking skills.

Statement of the problem
While digital teaching methods have the potential to enhance learning outcomes, the majority of secondary schools in Katsina Local Government Area still primarily use traditional methods. There is a need to assess the comparative effectiveness of both approaches to determine whether the integration of digital teaching methods could improve student performance and learning outcomes.

Objectives of the study

  1. To compare the learning outcomes of students using traditional teaching methods and digital teaching methods in secondary schools in Katsina.

  2. To evaluate the impact of digital teaching methods on students’ knowledge retention, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

  3. To identify the challenges and opportunities for integrating digital teaching methods into secondary schools in Katsina.

Research questions

  1. How do learning outcomes compare between traditional and digital teaching methods in secondary schools in Katsina?

  2. What impact do digital teaching methods have on student knowledge retention, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in Katsina secondary schools?

  3. What are the challenges and opportunities for integrating digital teaching methods into secondary schools in Katsina?

Significance of the study
This study will provide insights into the comparative effectiveness of traditional and digital teaching methods in secondary education. It will help educators and policymakers make informed decisions about incorporating digital tools into the curriculum to enhance student learning outcomes.

Scope and limitations of the study
The study focuses on secondary schools in Katsina Local Government Area, Katsina State, and compares traditional and digital teaching methods. It does not extend to other educational levels or areas outside the specified region.
