Background of the study
The increasing adoption of mobile money solutions has revolutionized the way financial transactions are conducted, including payments for goods and services in educational institutions. In Nigeria, mobile money has made it easier for students and parents in rural and urban areas alike to pay for school fees, reducing the need for physical cash transactions, which are often prone to security risks and inconvenience (Olaniyi & Adedeji, 2023). Mobile money solutions allow for seamless, instant, and secure transactions, which are crucial for ensuring that students' fees are paid on time.

In Bida Local Government Area, Niger State, the use of mobile money for school fee payments could streamline administrative processes, reduce delays in fee collection, and ensure that more students have access to education without facing financial hurdles. However, challenges such as lack of awareness, limited access to mobile phones, and unreliable internet connectivity could affect the widespread adoption and effectiveness of mobile money solutions in secondary schools. This study will analyze the effectiveness of mobile money solutions for school fee payments in secondary schools in Bida.

Statement of the problem
While mobile money solutions have the potential to simplify school fee payments, their effectiveness in Bida's secondary schools is hindered by several factors, including poor internet access, a lack of digital literacy, and inadequate understanding of mobile payment methods among parents and school administrators. These challenges have slowed the adoption of mobile money for fee payments in the area. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of mobile money solutions for school fee payments in secondary schools in Bida and identify the factors affecting their adoption.

Objectives of the study

  1. To evaluate the effectiveness of mobile money solutions for school fee payments in secondary schools in Bida.

  2. To identify the challenges faced by parents, students, and school administrators in using mobile money solutions for fee payments.

  3. To explore the factors influencing the adoption of mobile money solutions for school fee payments in Bida's secondary schools.

Research questions

  1. How effective are mobile money solutions in streamlining school fee payments in secondary schools in Bida?

  2. What challenges do parents, students, and school administrators face in using mobile money solutions for school fee payments in Bida?

  3. What factors contribute to the successful adoption of mobile money solutions for school fee payments in Bida’s secondary schools?

Significance of the study
This study will provide an understanding of how mobile money solutions can improve the school fee payment process in Bida’s secondary schools, benefiting both administrators and parents. The findings will be valuable for policymakers, school administrators, and financial institutions in promoting the use of mobile money solutions to enhance the efficiency of fee payments in the education sector.

Scope and limitations of the study
The study is limited to secondary schools in Bida Local Government Area, Niger State, and focuses on the effectiveness of mobile money solutions for school fee payments. It does not include schools outside Bida or investigate other financial transaction methods.
