Background of the Study
Waste collection is an essential service in urban areas, yet waste collectors face numerous occupational health risks due to the nature of their work (Oluwaseun et al., 2023). In Kwara State, waste collectors are often exposed to hazardous materials, including sharp objects, toxic chemicals, and infectious waste, which can result in physical injuries, respiratory diseases, and other health issues (Idris & Musa, 2024). Despite the importance of waste management in ensuring public health and hygiene, occupational health risks faced by waste collectors are frequently overlooked, and safety measures are often inadequate (Akinyemi et al., 2024). This situation poses a significant challenge for workers' health and well-being, and requires further investigation to understand the full scope of health risks and propose viable solutions.
Studies have shown that waste collectors are at an elevated risk of diseases such as hepatitis, respiratory infections, and skin conditions due to prolonged exposure to waste materials (Oyeleke et al., 2023). Moreover, the lack of proper protective equipment, such as gloves, masks, and uniforms, exacerbates the health risks of waste collectors in Kwara State (Afolabi et al., 2024). This study seeks to assess the occupational health risks among waste collectors in Kwara State and recommend strategies to improve their working conditions and health outcomes.
Statement of the Problem
Waste collectors in Kwara State face significant occupational health risks, yet their health and safety are often not prioritized. The lack of protective gear, inadequate health monitoring, and exposure to hazardous waste contribute to a range of health problems among waste collectors. This study aims to investigate the occupational health risks among waste collectors in Kwara State and explore ways to mitigate these risks.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on urban areas in Kwara State where waste collection is a significant public service. Limitations include challenges in obtaining health records and data on occupational risks due to privacy concerns and the informal nature of some waste collection practices.
