Background of the study
Digital Learning Management Systems (LMS) are software platforms used by educational institutions to manage, deliver, and track the learning process. These systems allow for online course delivery, submission of assignments, assessments, and communication between students and teachers (Wang & Chen, 2023; Gupta & Patel, 2024). In rural areas, such as Bida in Niger State, the adoption of digital LMS can bridge the gap in access to quality education by enabling remote learning, offering a centralized location for resources, and improving teacher-student interaction.
Despite the promising potential of LMS in rural schools, their effectiveness remains dependent on factors such as internet accessibility, teacher proficiency in using technology, and the availability of digital devices. Bida's rural schools face unique challenges that may affect the effectiveness of LMS, such as unreliable internet connectivity, lack of infrastructure, and low levels of digital literacy. This study will analyze the effectiveness of digital LMS in rural secondary schools in Bida, Niger State, and assess how these challenges influence learning outcomes.
Statement of the problem
Although digital Learning Management Systems have the potential to improve education in rural secondary schools, their effectiveness in Bida Local Government Area has been limited by various challenges. These include inadequate infrastructure, unreliable internet connectivity, and a lack of adequate training for both teachers and students. As a result, the anticipated benefits of LMS, such as enhanced student engagement and improved learning outcomes, have not been fully realized in these schools. This study seeks to explore the factors affecting the effectiveness of LMS in Bida’s rural secondary schools.
Objectives of the study
Research questions
Significance of the study
This study will provide an understanding of how digital Learning Management Systems function in rural secondary schools in Bida, identifying both their potential and limitations. The findings will be valuable for educators, policymakers, and administrators in improving the implementation of LMS in rural schools, enhancing the learning experience for students.
Scope and limitations of the study
The study focuses on the effectiveness of digital Learning Management Systems in rural secondary schools within Bida Local Government Area, Niger State. It does not include schools outside Bida or other forms of digital learning tools.
