Background of the Study
Stroke is a major public health issue globally and a leading cause of disability and mortality. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), stroke accounts for a significant proportion of neurological disorders worldwide, with a particularly high prevalence in low- and middle-income countries like Nigeria. Recovery from stroke often depends on timely and effective interventions, which include physical, psychological, and rehabilitative care. Clinical nursing plays a crucial role in stroke management, as nurses are often the first point of contact and primary caregivers for stroke patients in hospital settings.
In tertiary hospitals in Niger State, clinical nursing interventions such as early mobilization, administration of prescribed medications, and patient education on lifestyle modifications are essential components of stroke care. These interventions aim to reduce complications, enhance recovery, and improve patients’ quality of life. However, the effectiveness of these interventions may vary due to factors such as resource availability, training, and adherence to evidence-based practices.
Despite the recognized importance of clinical nursing in stroke recovery, there is limited research on the specific impact of these interventions within tertiary hospitals in Niger State. Understanding this impact is crucial for optimizing care delivery and improving patient outcomes.
Statement of the Problem
Stroke poses a significant health challenge in Niger State, with many patients experiencing prolonged recovery periods and high rates of disability. While clinical nursing interventions are essential for improving recovery outcomes, their effectiveness in tertiary hospitals within the state is not well-documented. Factors such as inadequate staffing, limited resources, and inconsistent implementation of evidence-based practices may hinder the delivery of optimal care.
There is a need to critically evaluate the impact of clinical nursing interventions on stroke recovery in this context. Such an evaluation would provide valuable insights into the strengths and limitations of current practices, inform training programs, and guide policy development to enhance stroke care.
