Background of the Study

Lifestyle modification is a proven strategy for preventing and managing cardiovascular diseases, particularly among women who face unique risk factors such as pregnancy-related hypertension, obesity, and physical inactivity (World Health Organization, 2024). Nurse-led lifestyle modification programs focus on educating patients about diet, exercise, stress management, and medication adherence to reduce heart disease risk (Aliyu & Usman, 2023).

In Nigeria, particularly in Kebbi State, women have a high prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors, yet access to structured prevention programs remains limited. Many women in rural areas engage in unhealthy lifestyle behaviors due to cultural influences, lack of health education, and financial constraints (Bello et al., 2023). Nurse-led interventions can bridge this gap by offering targeted lifestyle counseling, community-based health education, and follow-up support for at-risk women (Ibrahim & Yusuf, 2024).

Despite the potential benefits of lifestyle modification programs, there is limited research on the effectiveness of nurse-led initiatives in reducing heart disease risk among women in Kebbi State. This study aims to evaluate the impact of such programs in improving heart health and reducing cardiovascular risk factors.

Statement of the Problem

Heart disease remains a leading cause of mortality among women in Kebbi State due to poor lifestyle habits, inadequate preventive healthcare, and low awareness of cardiovascular risks. Many women fail to adopt heart-healthy behaviors due to limited access to structured lifestyle modification programs (Ahmed & Yusuf, 2023).

Nurse-led lifestyle modification programs have been recognized as effective in preventing and managing heart disease by providing personalized health education, dietary counseling, and exercise recommendations. However, there is a lack of research on the implementation and effectiveness of these programs in Kebbi State. Without structured lifestyle interventions, the burden of heart disease among women may continue to rise, leading to increased healthcare costs and mortality.

Objectives of the Study

1. To evaluate the impact of nurse-led lifestyle modification programs on reducing heart disease risk among women in Kebbi State.

2. To assess the effectiveness of dietary, exercise, and stress management interventions in improving heart health.

3. To identify challenges affecting the implementation of lifestyle modification programs in Kebbi State.

Research Questions

1. How effective are nurse-led lifestyle modification programs in reducing heart disease risk among women in Kebbi State?

2. What specific lifestyle interventions contribute to improved cardiovascular health?

3. What are the barriers to successful implementation of lifestyle modification programs?

Research Hypotheses

1. Nurse-led lifestyle modification programs significantly reduce heart disease risk among women in Kebbi State.

2. Dietary, exercise, and stress management interventions improve cardiovascular health among participants.

3. Limited access to healthcare resources and cultural factors hinder the implementation of lifestyle modification programs.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

This study will focus on nurse-led lifestyle modification programs in selected healthcare facilities in Kebbi State. Limitations may include variations in participant adherence and differences in lifestyle habits among study participants.

Definition of Terms

• Lifestyle Modification Programs: Structured interventions designed to promote healthy behaviors, including diet, exercise, and stress management.

• Nurse-Led Interventions: Health programs designed and implemented by nurses to improve patient outcomes.

• Heart Disease Risk: Factors that increase the likelihood of developing cardiovascular conditions, including hypertension, obesity, and inactivity.
