Background of the Study

Interprofessional education (IPE) involves students from different healthcare professions learning together to foster collaborative practice. This approach is essential in preparing nursing students for effective teamwork, which is crucial for delivering high-quality patient care. In Nigeria, including Zamfara State, the integration of IPE into nursing curricula is still evolving. Evaluating the effectiveness of IPE in enhancing teamwork skills among nursing students is vital for curriculum development and improving healthcare delivery.

Statement of the Problem

While the importance of teamwork in healthcare is well-recognized, there is limited research on the impact of IPE on nursing students' teamwork skills in Zamfara State. Challenges such as resource limitations, cultural differences, and traditional educational structures may affect the implementation and effectiveness of IPE programs. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of IPE in improving teamwork skills among nursing students in Zamfara State and identify factors influencing its success.

Objectives of the Study

1. To evaluate the impact of IPE on nursing students' teamwork skills in Zamfara State.

2. To identify factors that enhance or hinder the effectiveness of IPE in this context.

3. To provide recommendations for integrating IPE into nursing education to improve teamwork competencies.

Research Questions

1. How does IPE influence nursing students' teamwork skills in Zamfara State?

2. What factors contribute to the success or failure of IPE programs in enhancing teamwork skills?

3. How can IPE be effectively integrated into nursing curricula to improve teamwork competencies?

Research Hypotheses

1. IPE programs significantly improve nursing students' teamwork skills in Zamfara State.

2. Factors such as faculty support, resource availability, and cultural attitudes significantly influence the effectiveness of IPE.

3. Integrating IPE into nursing curricula enhances students' competencies in collaborative practice.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

This study will focus on nursing students enrolled in accredited nursing programs in Zamfara State. Data will be collected through surveys, focus group discussions, and assessments of teamwork competencies. Limitations may include variability in IPE program implementation, potential biases in self-reported data, and challenges in measuring the direct impact of IPE on teamwork skills.
