Background of the Study
In recent years, the authentication and verification of academic certificates have become increasingly important due to the rise of fraudulent practices. Many institutions, including Federal University, Lokoja, Kogi State, face challenges in verifying the authenticity of certificates issued to graduates, which could lead to issues such as fraudulent claims or identity theft. Blockchain technology, with its decentralized and tamper-proof ledger, presents a promising solution for ensuring the integrity and authenticity of academic credentials.
By implementing a blockchain-based certificate verification system, Federal University, Lokoja, can provide a transparent, secure, and easily accessible platform for verifying the authenticity of academic certificates. This system would not only streamline the verification process but also mitigate the risks associated with fraudulent documents.
Statement of the Problem
Currently, the certificate verification process at Federal University, Lokoja, relies on manual and centralized methods that are time-consuming and vulnerable to errors or manipulation. This system is inadequate to handle the increasing number of requests for certificate verification. This study aims to develop a blockchain-based certificate verification system to improve the efficiency and security of the verification process at the university.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on developing a blockchain-based certificate verification system for Federal University, Lokoja, and evaluating its effectiveness. The study will not cover other aspects of blockchain technology beyond the verification system.
