Background of the Study
Cloud storage solutions have revolutionized data management in academic institutions, offering scalability, remote access, and cost-effectiveness (Ogunleye & Okon, 2024). However, concerns over data security, unauthorized access, and compliance with regulatory policies remain key challenges. Universities store sensitive information, including research data, student records, and financial details, making secure cloud storage a priority (Adewale et al., 2023).
Several secure cloud storage solutions, such as Google Drive, OneDrive, and private cloud infrastructures, offer encryption, access control, and backup mechanisms to safeguard data. However, the effectiveness of these solutions varies based on implementation, compliance with security standards, and institutional policies. This study aims to evaluate secure cloud storage solutions in Federal University, Birnin Kebbi, to determine their effectiveness in protecting institutional data.
Statement of the Problem
Despite the adoption of cloud storage solutions, Federal University, Birnin Kebbi, faces challenges such as unauthorized data access, data breaches, and concerns over compliance with data protection policies. Many users also lack awareness of best practices for secure cloud usage, increasing the risk of data exposure.
This study seeks to evaluate the security features of existing cloud storage solutions in the university and recommend best practices for enhancing data protection.
Objectives of the Study
To assess the security features of cloud storage solutions used in Federal University, Birnin Kebbi.
To evaluate the effectiveness of these solutions in preventing unauthorized access and data breaches.
To propose recommendations for improving secure cloud storage adoption in the university.
Research Questions
What security features do cloud storage solutions in Federal University, Birnin Kebbi, offer?
How effective are these solutions in preventing unauthorized access and data breaches?
What measures can be implemented to enhance secure cloud storage adoption?
Significance of the Study
This study will help Federal University, Birnin Kebbi, improve cloud storage security, ensuring data integrity and compliance with cybersecurity standards. It will also guide IT administrators in selecting and configuring secure cloud solutions.
