BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Caritas University is a private university located in Amorji Nike, Enugu. On December 16, 2004, the Federal Government of Nigeria granted approval for the university. On January 21, 2005, it was formally inaugurated by Prof. Fabian Osuji, who is the Minister of Education for the Federal Government. On January 31, 2005, the doors were officially opened to the public. On May 28, 2005, the first students of 250 to graduate from the school did so in a spectacular ceremony that was attended by officials from both the church and the state. Rev. Fr. Prof. Emmanuel Paul Mathew Edeh Cssp, OFR established this institution in Nigeria, making it the country's second Catholic university. Despite the fact that he was the original founder of the university, the Congregation of Sisters the Saviour—a religious order of nuns that he also established—is the current owner of the institution (Afolabi, 2019).

Caritas University was founded with the mission of "rescuing some of our wandering and teaming youths from further slide into academic and moral decay, and developing and transforming our society through sound and adulterated education." Caritas University also has the goal of "rescuing some of our wandering and teaming youths from further slide into academic and moral decay." Discovering, sanctifying, and using the knowledge of science, environmental science, and engineering in service of human well-being and the healthy growth of man for the betterment of society is its aim (Baje, 2018).

The mission of Caritas University is to ensure that the university's motto and educational philosophy are carried out in a way that is effective. Not only do we value quality education in order to acquire professional skills and competence in a variety of sectors, but we also adhere to a strong code of conduct. Through the practice of obedience and self-control, we train not only the intellect but also the body, the soul, and the spirit. The students must not only be academically and professionally prepared for various duties and positions in the world, but they must also be morally ready to confront the world itself with all of its tensions, conflicts, problems, and paradoxes. This is a requirement for graduation. We are able to do this with the assistance of God Almighty, who is constantly present with us (Brian, 2016).

The overarching goal is to foster rigorous education that leads to the development of professional skills and competences across a variety of domains in conjunction with stringent disciplinary measures. The University referred to the practice of obedience and self-control as "discipline," which entailed the training of the mind, body, soul, and spirit. In addition to this, the students will be prepared to be intellectually and professionally sound for a variety of activities and positions in the real world, complete with all of its tensions, conflicts, problems, and paradoxes (Craig, 2022).

The faculty system is operated by the university. At the moment, the University is comprised of six faculties, which are the Education and Arts Faculty, the Engineering Faculty, the Environmental Sciences Faculty, the Management Faculty, the Social Science Faculty, and the Natural Science Faculty.
