Background of the Study
Agriculture remains one of the key sectors of Nigeria’s economy, with significant contributions to employment and food security. Rice production is an essential part of Nigeria's agricultural output, with Kebbi State, particularly the Argungu region, being a major rice-producing area. President Bola Tinubu’s agricultural policies, which include initiatives to increase local rice production, improve farming practices, and enhance the agricultural value chain, aim to address food security challenges and reduce reliance on rice imports. His administration has introduced policies to improve irrigation systems, provide subsidies to farmers, and promote mechanization.

The impact of Tinubu’s agricultural policies on rice production in Argungu, a region known for its annual Argungu Festival and rice cultivation, is significant for the local economy. This study seeks to assess the effectiveness of these policies in improving rice production in Argungu and their broader impact on food security and rural development in Kebbi State.

Statement of the Problem
Despite the policies aimed at boosting rice production, challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, poor access to financing, and fluctuating market conditions persist in Argungu. The study will investigate the extent to which Tinubu’s agricultural policies have addressed these challenges and whether they have led to a sustainable increase in rice production in the region.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To evaluate the impact of President Bola Tinubu’s agricultural policies on rice production in Argungu, Kebbi State.

  2. To assess the impact of these policies on the livelihoods of rice farmers in Argungu.

  3. To identify the challenges faced by rice farmers in Argungu in implementing Tinubu’s agricultural policies.

Research Questions

  1. How have Tinubu’s agricultural policies impacted rice production in Argungu?

  2. What has been the impact of these policies on the livelihoods of rice farmers in Argungu?

  3. What challenges have rice farmers in Argungu faced in implementing Tinubu’s agricultural policies?

Research Hypotheses

  1. Tinubu’s agricultural policies have led to an increase in rice production in Argungu.

  2. The agricultural policies have improved the livelihoods of rice farmers in Argungu.

  3. Challenges such as poor infrastructure and limited access to financing have hindered the successful implementation of agricultural policies in Argungu.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus on the impact of President Bola Tinubu’s agricultural policies on rice production in Argungu, Kebbi State. The study will be limited to rice farming in Argungu and will not address other agricultural sectors. Limitations include data accessibility from local farmers and potential external factors such as climate change or global rice prices affecting production.
