Background of the Study
During his presidency, Muhammadu Buhari’s administration prioritized infrastructure development as part of its broader economic diversification strategy. Among the key projects was the improvement of road infrastructure across the country, with significant investments made in key sectors. Road projects were particularly focused on enhancing inter-state connectivity, reducing travel time, and stimulating regional economic activities. Sokoto South, which connects Sokoto State to neighboring regions, was one of the beneficiaries of these road infrastructure projects. This region has historically faced challenges related to poor road conditions, which have hindered trade, agriculture, and access to social services.
This study seeks to evaluate the impact of Buhari’s road infrastructure projects on Sokoto South, examining how the improved road network has influenced trade, local economies, and community life. While the construction of new roads and the rehabilitation of existing ones were key promises of Buhari’s administration, this study will assess whether these projects have achieved the desired outcomes in Sokoto South.
Statement of the Problem
Despite the significant investment in road infrastructure, challenges such as funding constraints, project delays, and inadequate maintenance continue to affect the overall effectiveness of these initiatives. While road infrastructure improvements have the potential to boost local economies, improve transportation efficiency, and reduce accidents, it remains uncertain whether the projects in Sokoto South have delivered tangible benefits to the community. This study will assess the effectiveness of these projects and identify areas where improvements are still needed.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus on evaluating the road infrastructure projects implemented during Buhari’s administration in Sokoto South. The scope will include projects completed from 2015 to 2025. The study will not examine road projects in other regions of Sokoto State or assess the broader national impact of the infrastructure initiatives.
