Background of the Study
Nyesom Wike, appointed as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister in 2023, assumed office with a mandate to address key urban planning and development challenges facing the territory. One of the significant issues under his leadership is land allocation, a topic that has been contentious in the FCT for many years due to land disputes, encroachment, and irregularities in the allocation process. Lugbe, a growing district within the FCT, has witnessed rapid development due to its proximity to the city center, attracting both residential and commercial investments. However, land allocation processes in the area have been marred by allegations of corruption, favoritism, and non-compliance with urban development guidelines.
Wike’s policies and actions in land allocation will be critical in determining how effectively these challenges are addressed. His administration has made several promises to streamline land allocation processes, ensure transparency, and provide equal opportunities for all citizens. This study will examine Wike’s stance on land allocation in Lugbe, assessing the impact of his policies on transparency, fairness, and land development in the region.
